Smith Rock Hike

Our adventure this week took us to Terrabone, a beautiful town just outside of Redmond. We took a little detour and visited the Crooked River Canyon.
It was not a place for those scared of heights!
The canyon is beautiful but straight down from the side of the cliff!
It was a fun little excursion but I was glad to leave!
Our greatest adventure was climbing Misery Ridge. Sawyer gave his daddy a great big kiss goodbye as he would soon embark on a great adventure with his mom to the top of the ridge.
He made sure to load up on protein before his great trip to the top.
This place is magnificent!
Canyon got a ride back out of the canyon after our hike.
This was what we conquered!! Misery ridge is a trail that takes you to the top quickly but not without some self inflicted misery...hence the name!
Canyon hiked up 1/2 of the trail by himself and then headed back down with dad. He did such a great job. I don't think it will be long before he can make it to the top!
On the way back down, Canyon and dad practiced making some great echos from this perfect cave.
Peggy this is for you! I wish we could have hiked it out for you but we will just have to come back in search of it again!
Sawyer and I made it to the top and headed around the backside to see the side of Monkey Face Rock. Sawyer was a trooper and was such an encourager for me! He was constantly telling me, "Be careful momma" and "Good job momma." It's hard to see the monkey face of this rock but it's a pretty cool sight. I have multiple posts of this hike with great pictures of the actual face as this has been a favorite hike of ours even before kids. It was also the rock I rock climbed just 6 months ago with Julie. I still can not believe I was standing on top of that rock! Makes my tummy turn just thinking about it!
I think boys, even grown boys like daddy, still enjoy skipping rocks in the water.
And finding treasures like these are also such a great part of our adventures.
You sometimes have blink twice to make sure you are seeing such beauty!
Thankful for this magnificent creation, for this life, full of blessings.
Especially these two. Can only dream about our future times together. For now we are soaking up their individual unique personalities and loving them unconditionally!

METOLIUS

Mother Nature has put a damper on some of our adventures it seems for WAY TO LONG, so today we were committed no matter what the weather had in store for us. We envisioned a nice clear cool day to go in search of bald eagles but instead we embarked on a journey of snow covered back roads and some heavy wet snow!
Pictures can never do this justice but the Metolius river in this one section is such a spectacular sight.
The water is a beautiful teal blue color in the center of the dark black water around it.
Sawyer ready to find some fish!
Trying to get the boys to take a picture in sync is nearly impossible but I never give up and someday I know I will get a good one!!
Canyon is trying to figure out how to spell Sturgeon.
Daddy holding on to Sawyer so he doesn't jump in and swim with the Sturgeon.
Such fun fish to watch.
The masses of fish are waiting for Sawyer to drop some food!
Fish Food!
Here they come!
So cool for the boys to see this!
We never did see any eagles but the ducks were beautiful. And this picture is a once in a lifetime shot. We also saw an otter that I wasn't able to get a picture of, but it gives us more reasons to come back again and again in search for that little guy!!

MY BOYS

I find myself so eager to go on big adventures with the boys that I can sometimes miss out on the greatness of the little ones we have throughout our day! We took a walk down to a St Patrick's Day event and ended up at Cafe Yumm on our way home. Sawyer amazed me by walking the entire way there and back while Canyon (our more sensitive child) stayed warm under blankets in the stroller. It was very windy and cold/rainy that day.
I LOVE how the boys always want to participate in baking. A friend recently asked how I do all of this and it's with help of my eager boys! Get your kids involved in the things that may otherwise take time away from them.
Sawyer just loves to be near me when I am prepping my veggies for meals for the week and will amaze me at what he will eat raw...today it was zuchinni and bok choy. I am reminded at every meal how blessed I am to have boys who will eat anything I make!
If you look close enough you can see a tooth turning grey that was the result of a ledge that met the tooth head on.
We have been playing a lot of letter BINGO which I have to admit is pretty fun, especially since the winner gets to have a sweet tart!
We also recently started homeschooling and I am having so much fun watching the boys soak up all the information. Never underestimate the brain of a small child. Even if they can't verbalize an understanding, the information is being processed by them!
We are working on our book of creation and learning numbers along with it. Sawyer is learning the numbers while Canyon is already working on putting words together as he has mastered the sounds they all make.
These are the little adventures we have every day and I love them just as much as the big ones!
